Reasons Not to Run in the Dark, Based Upon True Science and Observation

My wife and her running buddies train in the early morning while it is still dark. I do not go with them, nor am I up to witness it, but I hear about it from others. Here are the reasons I don’t run until the sun comes up. These are all based upon true science and observation.

chupacabra1. Few races are in the dark, and I train for race conditions.

2. The early morning training hours belong to my wife, even when she is injured and not training.

3. I’m lazy.

4. I’d rather sit and read. Well, not really, but

5. I’d rather sit and drink coffee.

6. There are rattlesnakes where I live.

7. Rattlesnakes stretch out in the road during the early morning hours.

8. Skunks.

9. Chupacabras.

10. Chupacabras are attracted to headlamps. And runners.

11. Running in the dark gives me flashbacks of being chased by the cops.

  2. I don’t run in the dark, either. Come to think of it, I don’t run at all.

  3. It’s 18 degrees here. If I got up to run in the morning, it would be 2 degrees. I saw some lady running today and I thought “what a glutton for punishment”. Yeah no thanks.

  5. Chupacabras are no joke. Not only should you avoid running in the early morning, you should also avoid walking your pet goat at all hours of the day.

    • I’m glad you take chupacabras seriously. Are they in your state, too? I thought they only lived down here along the Southwest border. Yes, please keep your goats safe! Baaaaaa.

      • According to the article you linked to, they’ve been reported as far north as Maine! Though I bet they’re more prevalent the further south you get.
